How To Prepare Before The Movers Arrive

by Otto Moilanen

If you plan to move in the near future and you want to get professional help, you'll want to make sure that you're ready for your movers to arrive and do the hard work. You can take the steps needed to prepare so that moving day goes quickly and easily for all involved. Keep reading to learn how to best prepare before the movers arrive on moving day:

Schedule in Advance

As always, you'll want to schedule in advance of your move. If you wait until a few days or a week before, many movers will likely already be booked up and you may not get your first choice of moving company. By planning at least 2 to 3 weeks ahead, or even a month ahead if you have the opportunity to do so, you can secure the date, time, and company that you want and need.

Properly Pack

Don't wait until the last minute to pack up your belongings and don't do a bad job packing. If you're not paying for packing services, your movers will expect the boxes to be ready to go.

Tell the Movers Where to Park

Having a parking spot ahead of the move is a must. You should communicate with your movers in advance to make sure they know where to park. If you can, secure an area in front of your house or as close to your front door as possible so that you make life a lot easier for your movers.

Measure Doorways

You want to make sure that your furniture will fit through the doors that you plan to use. If you have any items that won't fit, you may want to consider breaking them down into smaller pieces before moving day. This will save your movers time and can save you money, too.

Protect Your Homes

It's a good idea to protect your old and new home before the movers come. If it's a bad weather day, using tarps or blankets in entranceways is a good idea. This will make cleanup easier for you at the end of the moving day.

Plan for Kids and Pets

Keeping kids and pets out of the way is a smart plan. You can arrange for a babysitter to watch the kids or have older kids and pets in a designated area out of the way.

Have Cash on Hand

Movers appreciate cash tips for their hard work. Having cash on hand before moving day is a great idea.

These tips can help you better prepare for your move. If you're ready to schedule a move, contact a local moving service.
